Project Info:
We are a US-based consulting company building multiple projects for a large American client. Two of these projects currently require dedicated data engineering support:
Project 1 - Property Intelligence Platform: A real estate and property data product that enables searching and analyzing property records. Data pipelines feed into Elasticsearch which powers the search functionality, with Snowflake serving as the primary data source.
Project 2 - Network Monitoring & Enrichment: A platform focused on people and organizations data enrichment. This project uses PostgreSQL for application data and Kafka for event streaming, with Snowflake as the upstream data source.
Both projects share a common data infrastructure: Snowflake as the central data warehouse, Prefect 3.x for pipeline orchestration, and dbt for transformations. The platform is operational and serving production traffic, with significant opportunities to improve reliability, performance, and data processing patterns.
Who We're Looking For:
As a Senior/Expert Data Engineer, you will be the primary owner of our data infrastructure across both projects, reporting to the Director of Engineering. We're seeking an expert-level Data Engineer who takes ownership and drives improvements proactively. The ideal candidate doesn't just execute tasks - they analyze problems, investigate root causes, and come to the table with well-reasoned solutions and proposals.
You should be comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams across time zones. We need someone who can partner with product managers to extract and clarify requirements, not just receive tickets.
Key attributes include:
- Pipeline Reliability Expert: You've built and maintained production data pipelines and know how to make them robust, observable, and self-healing. You understand that a pipeline without tests and monitoring is a liability.
- Observability-First Mindset: You build systems that surface problems proactively. Your pipelines don't fail silently - they alert, explain what went wrong, and provide the context needed to resolve issues quickly.
- Search & NoSQL Specialist: You have hands-on experience with document databases and understand how to optimize for performance, cost, and storage. You can diagnose slow queries and design efficient index mappings.
- Data Analysis & Problem Solver: You can dig into messy data, identify quality issues, and propose cleanup and normalization strategies. You bring solutions to discussions, not just questions.
- Technical Writer: You produce clear, maintainable documentation because you know it's essential for team scalability. You write runbooks, maintain architecture diagrams, and leave codebases better than you found them.
- Performance Optimizer: You have experience identifying bottlenecks and optimizing for both speed and cost. You can look at a slow query or expensive pipeline and know where to start.
- Proactive Communicator: You can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and aren't afraid to raise concerns or propose improvements.
The Team:
You'll be the dedicated data engineering expert within a collaborative, ownership-driven team of 15+ engineers. While you'll own the data platform independently, you'll have strong support from experienced engineers during onboarding and ongoing collaboration. We're a team that helps each other solve problems - you won't be left alone as long as you bring ideas and proposals to the table.
What We Offer:
- Fully remote work for a US-based company
- B2B contract with competitive rates
- Long-term engagement
- Working in an international environment with US and Poland-based team members
- Flexible working hours with core overlap 9 AM - 12 PM EST for meetings
- Autonomy and ownership over the data platform
- Opportunity to shape data architecture and introduce best practices
- AI-forward company with future opportunities to build ML models
