The Scientist Cell Line Development (m/f/d) for Cytiva is responsible for the establishment of innovative cell line development workflows and optimization of existing technologies.
This position reports to the Manager of Cell Line Development team and is part of R&D Department located in Cologne and will be on-site.

What you will do:
- Design, plan and perform experiments with a focus on cell line development (plasmid design, cloning, transfection, pool generation, single cell cloning, cell based assays, rAAV production, analytics, gene editing etc. ) and process optimization (quality, automation, implementation of new technologies)
- Maintain good documentation of the laboratory work, follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure robust, reproducible, and scalable workflows. Mentor and support colleagues, serving as a scientific role model in experimental execution, documentation, and problem-solving
- Perform data analysis by applying statistical methods and regularly present results in scientific communities (e.g. conferences, internal organization and customer meetings)
- Stay up to date with advancement and new emerging methods in the field by continuously screening scientific literature and apply this to process optimization, as well as for the interpretation of experimental observations. Contribute to writing of scientific articles and application notes
- Manage and coordinate internal and external development projects, including planning, alignment of timelines and deliverables, cross‑functional and cross‑site coordination, and interaction with external partners and customers to ensure successful execution and knowledge transfer
- Participate in laboratory maintenance tasks, inventory and resource management
Who you are:
- PhD degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or virology plus 3 years of professional experience (preferably in industrial R&D environment) or comparable training that provides in depth knowledge to fundamental theories and concepts in Cell and Molecular Biology.
- High proficiency in cell and molecular biological methods (mammalian cell cultivation, transient and stable transfection, gene-editing, qPCR / ddPCR, protein biochemistry, ELISA and Western blot, flow cytometry) as well as good computer skills (especially MS Office)
- Well trained in conducting literature search and interpretation of scientific publications
- Willingness and enthusiasm for hands on laboratory work. Flexibility to adapt to changes and organizational priorities
- Proficient English language oral and written skills, German would be a plus
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Multiple years of industry experience, particularly in the field of gene therapy or mAb development, is a strong plus
- Experience with high‑throughput technologies and automation platforms for cell line development and process optimization as well as development of genetically modified cell lines
- Strong interest in or experience with data-driven development, including analysis and visualization using R / RStudio
