Introduction
In order to fill a fixed-term position in full-time (39.83 hours/week = 100%;) from 1 July 2026, we are looking for a
Research associate (m/f/x)
The main focus on PTT's research is on semiconductor lasers. Starting from material science aspects, like investigations of new semiconductor materials and spintronics, we are heavily involved in the exploration of the semiconductor laser dynamics, and in applications of semiconductor laser systems in optical imaging and Terahertz (THz) Technology.

Your tasks:
As a research assistant (m/f/x), you will work on Raman- and Terahertz-Spectroscopy to analyse materials. You will independently and reliably prepare and carry out experiments, analyse the results and publish them in peer-reviewed journals. You are expected to supervise and guide students (m/f/x) in the international Master program Lasers and Photonics.
- Tasks in research (experimentally / analytically) in the field of Raman- and Terahertz Spectroscopy
- Preparing and submitting publications
- Presenting of research results
- Support in submitting research applications
- Supervision of Master students
Your profile:
- Candidates (m/f/x) should hold a master degree (or diploma) in Electrical Engineering or Physics.
- Ideally the candidate (m/f/x) has experience in Raman Spectroscopy and Terahertz Technology as well as in data analysis.
- The candidate (m/f/x) is expected to have excellent English oral and written skills.
- Additionally, independence, motivation, team working spirit and the desire to work in an international environment will be crucial.

Further information:
The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L).If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L.

The place of work is Ruhr University Bochum.
The load of teaching will be calculated according to § 3 of Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung (state of North Rhine-Westphalia).
