What to Expect:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Quality Engineer to lead quality strategy and execution for battery cell raw materials. In this role, you will be a key stakeholder in the development and industrialization of new materials, ensuring robust quality standards from R&D through mass production. You will work closely with global suppliers, internal engineering teams, and manufacturing operations to drive material quality, consistency and sustainability across the value chain. This role is ideal for a senior professional with deep technical knowledge of battery materials and a strong background in supplier quality, process engineering and quality systems in fast-paced or high-volume manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Own and drive material quality strategy for critical cell components, ensuring alignment with product performance and manufacturing needs
Lead structured problem-solving efforts (8D, Shainin, DMAIC) for material-related issues impacting cell yield, safety or performance
Define and manage critical-to-quality attributes (CTQs) for each material family; drive control plans and test methods with suppliers and labs
Collaborate with R&D and Process Engineering to support Design for Quality, APQP, and pilot-to-ramp transitions for new material introductions
Drive supplier qualification, audits, and material PPAPs for new and existing vendors; support localization and dual sourcing initiatives
Champion FMEA, SPC, and material capability analysis to proactively mitigate risks in supplier or in-house processes
Serve as technical liaison with suppliers to resolve systemic quality issues, implement corrective actions and build continuous improvement roadmaps
Oversee implementation of incoming quality inspection systems and provide guidance on sampling, measurement techniques and data analysis
Partner with supply chain, procurement, and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and other relevant material standards
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy or a related discipline
5+ years of experience in battery materials, chemical or advanced materials manufacturing with strong exposure to raw material quality or supplier development
Deep understanding of battery cell components (NCM/NCA, LFP, graphite, binder systems, separator films, copper/aluminum foils, electrolyte solvents/salts)
Proven expertise in quality engineering tools: 8D, FMEA, APQP, MSA, PPAP, SPC, Control Plans
Proficiency with statistical software (e.g. Minitab, JMP) and experience with datadriven decision making
Experience conducting or leading supplier audits, PPAP validations and material risk assessments
Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, REACH/RoHS and material regulatory requirements
Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills; ability to align stakeholders from R&D to manufacturing and procurement
Fluency in English and German is required; Proficiency in Japanese, Korean or Chinese is a strong plus
