Lead Europe’s First Cloud-Native 5G Mobile Network

1&1 Mobilfunk GmbH, part of the 1&1 Group and United Internet AG, is building Europe’s first fully virtualized, cloud-native 5G network.

With around 150 employees and the backing of a listed telecom group, the company combines greenfield agility with industrial-scale impact.

We are seeking an experienced technology executive with full end-to-end responsibility for network architecture, engineering, rollout, and operations — and who will serve as the CEO’s primary technical and operational partner.

Responsibilities

• Full end-to-end ownership of technology, architecture, engineering and operations
• Shape and evolve the cloud-native 5G architecture across all network domains
• Ensure robust delivery and transparent governance for all network programs
• Lead planning, deployment, operations and performance with root-cause resolution
• Drive automation, efficiency and observability across the entire network lifecycle
• Build and lead an international engineering & operations organization
• Act as the CEO’s primary technical partner and executive-level representative

Requirements

• 15+ years in senior technology leadership within telecom or digital infrastructure
• Deep expertise in 5G Core, Open RAN and cloud-native architectures
• Proven delivery in large-scale network build-out, rollout and operations
• Leadership experience in international engineering or operations teams
• Strong execution and transformation capability with clear, data-driven decisions
• Solid CAPEX/OPEX understanding and business-case orientation
• High resilience, ownership and ability to operate in fast-moving environments
• Technical degree; fluent English (German a plus)
