Your tasks

Main objectives of the role

As a Research Working Student (f/m/d), you will support the assembly and testing of innovative loudspeaker prototypes that will shape the future of audio. You’ll work closely with senior team members, gradually expanding your technical capabilities as you grow into the role.

Your role and responsibilities

  • Prototyping: Assembly of electromechanical components, quality control, and testing of loudspeaker products.
  • Performance Evaluation: Under supervision, coordinate, execute, and document the acoustic performance of HOLOPLOT products and prototypes. This includes test planning, execution in both in-house facilities and external venues, and data post-processing.
  • High-Volume & Repetitive Tasks: Execute sequential testing across many units to ensure consistency and support hardware production through repetitive tasks such as manufacturing cables and assembling simple parts.
  • System Configuration: Configure and test prototypes using HOLOPLOT internal tools.
  • Lab Maintenance: Maintain inventory and organize laboratory equipment.

The ideal candidate is a motivated student in audio or mechanics who is eager to specialize in loudspeaker prototyping and audio system performance evaluations. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience by supporting venue testing for loudspeaker prototypes and contributing directly to our research efforts. You are curious, analytical, and able to translate complex technical topics into practical, actionable solutions. You bring foundational knowledge in acoustics and are keen to learn from experienced colleagues. You enjoy working in a team, take ownership of your tasks, and thrive in an environment of continuous feedback and learning.

What you need to succeed in this role

  • Background: Current studies in Acoustics, Audio Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Technical Knowledge: Solid foundation in acoustical and electrical loudspeaker measurements and scientific reporting.
  • Practical & DIY Skills: You have a "maker" mindset and feel comfortable using various hand and power tools. Experience with soldering, mechanical assembly, or DIY electronics projects is highly valued.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with measurement software such as dB-Lab, APx500, Clio, REW, etc.
  • Scripting & Data Post-Processing: Experience with scripting and post-processing measurement data (e.g. Python, MATLAB, Excel).
  • Linux Systems & CLI Workflows: Confidence working on headless Linux systems: SSH access, command-line workflows, and practical low-level troubleshooting (logs, processes, file systems).
  • Logistics & Soft Skills: A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel occasionally (inland and abroad).
  • Well-organized with strong communication skills in English (German is a plus).
  • Flexibility with working hours to accommodate occasional weekend testing at external venues.
  • A hands-on, responsible working style and a genuine desire to tackle complex technical challenges, including repetitive manual work.
