MSD, a manufacturer of specialty chemicals, equipment and software used in the printed circuit board, semi-conductor and connector industries, has an opening for a 2026 (start in March) undergraduate intern (m/f/d) placement.
We are looking for an inquisitive scientist-in-the-making who enjoys working in a wet-chemical laboratory and welcomes the challenge of switching thinking modes between inorganic, organic and physical chemistry as well as materials science. In your role as an intern (m/f/d) you will support the research activities of the project team responsible for the development of an electroless copper process for the deposition of ultra-thin copper layers. Why is that exciting? You surely have a smart phone and consider it an indispensable companion in your daily life. Thinner electroless copper layers will make next-generation smart phones, faster, more powerful, slimmer and lighter. So, come and help us make that happen!

Your responiblities

  • Execution of experiments and tasks as agreed with supervisor
  • Preparation of test coupons for electroless copper plating
  • Preparation and chemical analysis of treatment baths for electroless copper plating
  • Electroless copper deposit quality assessment by wet-chemical and physical methods
  • Documentation of results
  • Presentation of results in relevant meetings
  • Supporting the project team in troubleshooting process

What do you bring to the table

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, materials science or a related field (mandatory internship requirement)
  • Initial wet-chemical laboratory experience
  • Basic knowledge of and experience in spectroscopy, gravimetry, titrimetry and the chemistry of transition metals in aqueous media
  • Willingness to handle hazardous chemicals
  • Capacity to design, plan and conduct laboratory experiments and collect and analyze the resulting data
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office software
  • Proactive, structured, and collaborative working style
  • Strong communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus
  • High motivation to learn and contribute to impactful corporate initiatives
  • Compensation: €450/month
